REVIEWS

"Londons Superimpozer seems destined to be tagged 'electronic', 'experimental' and 'edgy'. But perhaps 'fucking different' is also on the cards. Gypsies may not be able to predict his devilish cuts and breaks, but it seems only reasonable that the label machine.records who released his first album and EP and who won a Welsh Music Award for best label in '05 knows a thing or two about surprising a listener. It thusly only seems reasonable that the dark jazz of trumpet, violin, electronica and glitchy IDM of Superimpozer is a trendy new way to look at urban electronica and that this is one album that's paving the way for an entire genre! Thought-jazz is glorious ain't it?"

". . . Superimpozer is an accomplished trumpet player, as well as being an electronic producer, and his fragmented wisps of Miles Davis inspired jazz often work in and out of heavily atmospheric, 'Bladerunner' beats and chattering machine sounds. It is these hazy, dreamlike horns that mean 'Thought Fungus' sits in a strange position, somewhere between the heady beatscapes of the mid 90's (think vintage Ninja Tune), and the harsher, more industrial visions of a post apocalyptic Philip K Dick nightmare. 'Thought Fungus' is a lengthy trip through 14 tracks of dark sludgey mollases. It's not the easiest listen by any means. But unlike the psychotic aural assault of Mouse On Mars, the 8 bit sounds are accompanied by flutes, violins, trumpets and glitched samples to produce a free-jazz styled soundtrack, one that you could easily lose yourself in, as it verges on sound art in many places. Conservative song structures are enshewed for more gut-wrenching feelings and it is this avant-garde approach that will definitely have listeners split down the middle. If, say, you're a listener of art radio stations like Resonance FM, or you've been down to dubiousaudio's 'Hypnogogo' nights at Corsica Studios in Elephant and Castle, then you know what to expect and therefore can appreciate the craftsmanship of 'Thought Fungus'. However if not, be prepared with open ears, this isn't exactly Boards of Canada."

“ . . . a talent worthy of investigation by more labels, and soon."
